MARSHALL -Adrianna DeBoer of Marshall was at a FFA leadership conference this past June in Washington, D.C. and she always had one thing in particular along with her.

"I carried around my camera every day," DeBoer said.

Her friends may have teased her, but one of the photos she took at Arlington National Cemetery while in Washington, D.C. placed at the annual Robert Schwan Memorial Photography contest.

The 2010 Robert Schwan Memorial Photography contest winners were recently announced and all of the entries will be on display at the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council's arts center until Aug. 28.

Awards will be presented Aug. 19 at Liberty Park during Marshall's Sounds of Summer celebration.

Taking Best of Show honors was Derek Jensen of Marshall for his alternate light entry "Shadow Song."

Other winners include:

Adult division

Natural light

First place - "The Lure" by Kim Henspeter

Second place -"Bleeding Heart II" by Elaine Hagen of Belview

Alternate light

First place -"Shadow Song" by Derek Jensen of Marshall

Second place -"Light Show, Boy Scout World Jamboree" by Muriel Runholt of Marshall.

Youth division

First place -"Grass Silhouette" by Trevor Johnson of Marshall

Second place - "Highlighted Faith" by Adrianna DeBoer of Marshall

Second place -Broken Light Bulb" by Trevor Johnson of Marshall.

DeBoer said there is a lookout point at Arlington and she saw a paver that had the word "faith" on it. It had rained earlier that day, but she knew the time was right to take the shot.

"It was so humid, but the light is perfect," DeBoer said. She said the photos just represents what is at Arlington.

DeBoer plans to go into photography at Ridgewater College after she graduates from Marshall High School. She has been assembling her portfolio and said this shot will be one that will definitely be part of it.
