Even though she’s a newcomer to the hair business, Marshall grad Kelsey Bednarek has opened up her own shop

After putting in time at Great Clips in Marshall and renting a booth from Sue's Cut and Curl in Ivanhoe, hair stylist Kelsey Bednarek was ready for her own shop.

"I worked at Great Clips for two years after graduating (from Minnesota West in Pipestone with a cosmetology diploma) and then rented from Sue (Leibfried)," Bednarek said.

Now Leibfried is renting a booth from Bednarek who just opened Main Attraction June 15 in Ivanhoe.

Bednarek bought an old clinic building and "gutted it out and renovated it," she said.

With help from her husband, Michael Bednarek, and his family, Bednarek got everything the way she wanted it.

"I'm excited to have my own shop," she said. "It's been one of my dreams to own my own business."

A Marshall High School graduate, Bednarek moved to Ivanhoe because her husband has a cabinet business.

Now Bednarek has her own place in downtown Ivanhoe. Whipple Insurance Agency rents offices in the building as well.

Along with cutting and styling hair, Bednarek offers two tanning rooms - including a stand-up tanning booth - and a private room for manicures, pedicures and waxing. She also has purses and jewelry for sale as well as nail polish and hair products.

Bednarek said offering all these services gives the customer "more options."
