Ice cream social July 16 at Christ Lutheran in Slayton

The public is invited to Christ Lutheran Church's annual Ice Cream Social on 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 16, at 2959 Queen Ave., Slayton. The menu includes barbecues, chips, homemade pie with ice cream and beverages. Activities include a bake sale and craft sale.

Lac qui Parle Mission Sunday near Montevideo

The Chippewa County Historical Society will host the 53rd annual Lac qui Parle Mission Sunday Sunday. The day will begin with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Enright Big Horn, and will feature the Dakota Choir and the hymn "Lac qui Parle." A potluck lunch will be at noon near the dam site. Coffee and juice will be provided. Attendees should bring a dish to pass, plates, napkins, eating and serving utensils and a folding chair.

The afternoon program will begin about 1 p.m. This year's speakers are the Rev. Lisa Corum Fox whose presentation will be "Come Thou Font of Every Blessing: The Story of the Connection of the Dakota Mission to the Abolitionist Movement in Ohio." Elwin Rogers will present "On the Trail to Fort Pierre, 1840: A Recently Discovered Journal," and Alan Woolworth will present "The Chain of Lakes Trail from Southwestern Minnesota to Two Woods Lake." This year's event also will be a part of Gideon Pond's 200th birthday.

There is no charge to attend this annual event which is open to the public. Local residents are encouraged to join the missionary and Dakota descendants for the day.

The Lac qui Parle Mission is located 6 miles north of Montevideo on Highway 59, and 2.2 miles west on County Road 13. Turn right before the dam and the Mission is on the right.

Cycle Sunday will be Sunday at Kuhar Park in Lamberton

The sixth annual Cycle Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Kuhar Park in Lamberton. The get-together starts at 9:30 a.m. with coffee, rolls and juice. The spiritual service is at 10 a.m. and will be comprised of a variety of music, a brief devotional and serving of the Lord's supper. Following the worship service, barbecues will be served. After lunch will be a bike tour to Ramsey Park and Falls in Redwood Falls. The event is sponsored by the Lamberton Church of Christ. Kuhar Park is located one-half mile north of Lamberton on County Road 6.

Christian concert Tuesday at Liberty Park

First Baptist Church is sponsoring a music group from Clearwater Christian College in Clearwater, Fla. The concert will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Liberty Park Bandshell. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at the church, 2219 250th St., Marshall.

Willow Lake Church to host old time service Sunday

Friends of Willow Lake are sponsoring an Old Time Service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Willow Lake Church near Currie. The service will be followed by light lunch.

Willow Lake Church was organized in 1874, and the building was built in 1899. The Friends of Willow Lake are interested in preserving and restoring this historical landmark.
