Marshall girls hockey pounds Redwood Valley
The Marshall girls hockey team dished out an 11-2 pounding to Redwood Valley Thursday in Southwest Conference play.
The Tigers dominated the Cardinals in nearly every phase of the game, jumping out to an 11-0 lead after two periods while outshooting Redwood Valley 49-7.
Marshall head coach Kevin Schroeder wanted his team to show more fire after a 5-3 loss to Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday.
"We tried to focus on coming out with more energy," Schroeder said.
Rachel Peters led the Tigers (5-3, 3-0 Southwest) with three goals. She added two assists. Megan Vogl had two goals and one assist. Lizzie Archbold added three assists of her own.
The Tigers scored three goals in the first five minutes of action Thursday, and were ahead 6-0 after the first period.
"We were moving our feet," Schroeder said, "and controlled the play the whole first period."
Redwood Valley (1-5, 1-3 Southwest) didn't score a goal until early in the third period, when Kelsey Joines found the net. Schroeder was pleased with the way Marshall maintained possession of the puck.
"From beginning to end we contolled the puck," Schroeder said. "... We kept it in our offensive end."
The Tigers will be in action again on Tuesday, when they host Willmar.
"The girls know they'll have to come out and play with even more intensity," Schroeder said.
