Enoch Swanson

Age 86, of Balaton

BALATON - Services for Enoch Swanson, 86, of Balaton will be at 2 p.m. today at the Balaton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.

The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.

He died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls.

He was born Oct. 8, 1923, to Swan and Iola (Ramsey) Swanson at their home in rural Garvin.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 29, 1944, as a heavy weapons crewman. He served in Western Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Sharpshooters Badge with a machine gun bar, Sharpshooters Badge with rifle bar, AM Theatre Ribbon, American Campaign Badge, WWII Victory Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with Bronze Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1946 and returned to the Balaton area.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Swanson of Marshall; four daughters, Laura Allen of Vining, Rita Paul of St. James, Elaine Hanson of Vining and Wanda Scharfe of Balaton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Swanson and Charles Swanson, both of Balaton; and nieces, nephews and friends.
