Hello Mustang Fans!

Wednesday, I headed up to St. Paul with our Mustang volleyball team as they prepare to compete in their sixth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance in as many years. The Mustangs practiced at noon in the Gangelhoff Center on Wednesday with a pre-tournament meeting beginning at 7 p.m. for the coaches and administrators.

The No. 13 Mustangs (25-7) received the No. 2 seed in the Central Region and will meet the seventh-seed in No. 20 Metro State (CO) (24-7) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament today at noon in St. Paul on the campus of Concordia Univeristy-St. Paul at the Gangelhoff Center.

This will be just the third meeting between SMSU and MSC and second in as many years. The Mustangs are 1-1 against the Roadrunners all-time; the last time the two programs met was, coincidentally, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last season where SMSU picked up a 3-1 win. The winner of this contest will go on to meet the winner of Univeristy of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Nebraska, Kearney on Friday.

The SMSU Classic, presented by State Farm Insurance and the local State Farm Agents of Southwestern Minnesota, will feature eight games in two days with four women's games and four men's games on Friday and Saturday. It will be the first time SMSU has hosted both a men's and women's classic since 2006.

Also in action this weekend, the Mustang wheelchair basketball team will head to Wisconsin, Whitewater, on Saturday where they will play the University of Illinois men's and women's teams and Edinboro University (Pa.). The Mustangs will continue their road trip to Columbia, Mo. where they will battle the University of Missouri on Monday and Tuesday. The Mustangs lost their first two contests of the season to University of Wisconsin, Whitewater - the defending national champions.

The Mustang wrestling team will travel to Northfield this Friday to compete in their first dual of the year against St. Olaf College. On Saturday, the Mustangs will travel to Minneapolis to compete in the Auggie Open. Head Coach, Jesse Nelson, had five wrestlers place last weekend in the Bison Open and is looking to build on last week's performances.

Good luck to all of our Mustang Teams this weekend. Go Mustangs!

Hoofprints Trivia Question: Congratulations, Alum, Neil Kruse, for providing the correct answer to last week's Mustang Hoofprints Trivia Question: What long-time Mustang head wrestling coach was inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame this summer? The correct answer was Mike Sterner, who was at the helm of Mustang wrestling for 29 years. Reminder: The Wellness and Human Performance and Athletics Department are hosting a retirement reception for Mike Sterner today at 2:30 p.m. in the BA Commuter Lounge. Please join us in celebrating Mike's professional career at SMSU.

Thank you to all who submitted answers to last week's trivia question.
