The Marshall swimming and diving team is not done yet.
The Tigers will be sending four individuals and two relay teams to the Class A State Meet Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneopolis.
"I'm just really proud of them," said Marshall head coach Nicole Peterson. "They seemed really focused on Saturday. They knew what they needed to do and worked hard to accomplish it."
The state meet begins Thursday with the diving events, but Marshall's Nikki McNair, the Tigers' only section-qualifying diver - didn't make the state cut.
The Tigers finished second in the section behind Hutchinson, but no team advances to the state meet.
The top two finishers in each event or those who beat the state cut will all continue their season in Minneapolis.
Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe will be heading back to state and will be competing in both the 200-Yard Freestyle and 100-Yard Butterfly. Her 1:00.56 in the 100-Yard Butterfly sets a new school record.
McKenzie Vermeire will also be advancing in two individual events after runner-up finishes in the 200-Yard Individual Medley and the 500-Yard Freestyle.
She also set school records in both events with a 2:12.45 in the 200 and a 5:20.92 in the 500.
Joining Vermeire in the 500 is her younger sister Kylie Vermeire, who qualified by beating the state cut with a time of 5:27.59. This will be Kylie Vermeire's first trip to the state tournament.
"Kylie's been around swimming quite a lot," Peterson said. "She's a club swimmer and of course her older sister is McKenzie. So it will be a new experience for her, just like sections was, but I have a lot of confidence in her. She's been at big meets before."
Kaylin Caron took the top spot in the 50-Yard Freestyle and finished second in the 100-Yard Freestyle to qualify for state in both events.
Sanchez-Aizcorbe, Emily Jensen, Kalin Webskowski and Caron teamed up to place first and set a new school record in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay (1:40.02). It also broke the Section 3A record, which was previously held by a team from Hutchinson with a time of 1:40.50.
Sanchez-Aizcorbe, Mckenzie Vermeire, Webskowski and Caron also broke a school record in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:37.54. It would have also been a new Section 3A record but the Tiger team trailed Hutchinson to finish second.
"The time drops throughout the season have really been pretty tremendous, especially with some of the relays," Peterson said. "We still have a few girls that were not fully tapered for the section meet, so we're excited to continue to taper them into next week and we're hoping for some personal bests at the state level."
Katie Vogl will be an alternate for the Tigers in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay and Kim Scholtes in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.
