RTR school bus, truck collide Friday
A school bus owned by Russell-Tyler-Ruthton schools and a 1994 Chevy pickup were involved in a collision at 1:57 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Lyon County roads 13 and 16, south of Russell, the Lyon County Sheriff's Department said.
The driver of the truck, Deena Omwoyo, 28, of Ghent, was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The bus was driven by Allen Peterson, 66, of Russell. He and the five students on the bus were uninjured but were transported to Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure, the news release said.
The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's department.
Along with the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, ambulances from Balaton and Tyler, along with Marshall North, Russell First Responders, the Balaton and Russell fire departments and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash, the sheriff's department said.
