MANKATO - Services for Marvin Henry Eibs, 84, of Mankato will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
He died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at his home.
Marvin was born Nov. 16, 1924, at home in Marshall to Carl and Catherine (Richters) Eibs, He was baptized, confirmed and married at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. He gradated from Concordia College Lutheran Seminary in Springfield, Ill., in 1947. Marvin was united in marriage to Mildred Marks on June 15, 1947. They were married for 62 years until her death on Aug. 26, 2009.
Throughout his ministry, Marvin served at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill to January 1951; First Lutheran of Faulkton, S.D., and Zion Lutheran of Ipswich, S.D., to December 1953; St. John's, Mazeppa Township of Summit, S.D., and St. John's, Rauville Township of Watertown, S.D., to May 1959; founding pastor of Berea in St. Paul to April 1970; Faith Lutheran in Sanborn to September 1991. He moved to Mankato after retiring. He was a member of the Christ Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mankato during this time ministering to families in Chuluota, Fla., on a part-time basis until his illness prevented him.
Survivors include his daughters, Ruth (and Lloyd) Greve and Katherine (and Daniel) Greve, All of Mankato; sons, Jonathan (and Mary) Eibs of Tucson, Ariz., and Timothy Eibs of Marshall; a sister, Margaret Gilbertson of Lucan; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elnora and Bernard Lewis, and Donna and Orton Thomton; a brother, Leroy Eibs; and by nieces and nephews.
