REDWOOD FALLS - A memorial service for Janice Johnson, 66, of Olivia will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Harvest Baptist Church in Redwood Falls. A private inurnment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and will continue on Thursday at the church for one hour prior to services. The family requests memorials be made to Renville County Hospice. Arrangements are with the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.
She died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Olivia.
Janice Mae Johnson, the daughter of Oscar and Esther (Krogh) Nelson, was born April 13, 1943, in Tracy. She grew up in Tracy and received her education there. As an adult, Janice lived in southwestern Minnesota and the Twin Cities Metro area, moving to Redwood Falls in 1998. She worked as a nurse's aide in the metro area and in Redwood Falls. In 2007, Janice moved to Fairfax where she lived until moving to the Golden Living Center in 2009.
She attended Harvest Baptist Church in Redwood Falls. Janice enjoyed arts and handiwork. She also liked to play cribbage and kismet, and enjoyed baking. Janice enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Playing Bingo was her greatest joy.
Survivors include her children Tamie Lenz and Jeff of Olivia, Alan Johnson of St. Paul, Leland Johnson and Dawn of Lake Lillian, Shari Witte and Galen of Darwin, Curt Miller and Shari of Hutchinson, and Tre's Johnson of Olivia; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings Howard (and Einie) Nelson of Westbrook, Ruth Delefson of Lamberton, Richard (and Delores) Nelson of Plainview, Betty Meyer of North Adams, Mich., Bobby (and Nancy) Nelson of Fairfax, and David (and Betty) Nelson of Hillsdale, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Tom; her great-granddaughter Kami; sisters Juliene, Jenette, and Carol; and brothers-in-law Leo and Don.
