COTTONWOOD - Services for Christine (Idso) Okrina, 97 of Cottonwood, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial is in the church cemetery.
She died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Granite Falls Manor.
Christine (Idso) Okrina was born July 23, 1912, on the family farm northwest of Cottonwood to Ole and Sena (Barstad) Anderson. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed on June 12, 1927 at Silo Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. She attended country school in Normania Township. On March 17, 1934 Christine married Tormod "Tom" Idso in Cottonwood. They had two sons. Tom died on May 1, 1956 at their home after a battle with cancer. Christine and Leonard Okrina were married on Sept. 26, 1964 in Cottonwood. Leonard died on April 27, 1970. Christine lived most of her life in Cottonwood, with the exception of a few years in Hanley Falls, after marrying Tom. She worked in the Skogmos store during the 1950s and later worked at North Star Insurance for 21 years, retiring in 1977.
She is survived by her two sons, David (and DeAnn) Idso of Shelbyville, Tenn. and Tomas (and Darlene) Idso of Nevis; granddaughters:, Sherry (and Robert) Proctor of Redwood Falls, and Peggy (and Clayton) Willhite of Rapid City, S.D.; grandsons, Kenny Idso of Alexandria, Kevin (and Tammy) Idso of St. Paul, Kacy (and Tami) Idso of Hanley Falls, Jason (and Terry) Idso of Litchfield, and Nathan (Lynette) Idso of St. Peter; granddaughter-in-law, Brandy Idso; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Sena; husbands, Tom Idso and Leonard Okrina; brothers, Swen (Claire) Anderson, Andrew (Alta) Anderson, and Edward (Mabel) Anderson; sisters, Marie (Clarence) Garry, and Margaret (Theodore) Norgord; half-brother Chris Anderson; and half-sisters, Helen (Edward) Varpness and Francis (Carl) Oftedahl; grandson, Kristian Idso; daughter-in-law, Georgia Idso; and grandson-in-law, Larry Janiszeski.
