MARSHALL - Nicholas Adam Olson, 26, of Clear Lake, S.D. pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 to a charge of domestic assault by strangulation. Olson choked a victim on June 30 in Marshall, court records said. A sentencing hearing was set for Sept. 22. Olson waived a pre-sentence investigation. The court ordered a sentencing worksheet.
MARSHALL - Preston Allan Sanow, 22, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 on two counts of second degree driving while impaired with the aggravating factor of a prior DWI in 2006. Sanow drove with an alcohol concentration of .22 on April 25 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. The court found probable cause for the charges. A hearing was set for Sept. 29. Sanow has posted $12,000 bail.
MARSHALL - Jeremy John German, 29, of Porter appeared in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 on two counts of second degree driving while impaired with the aggravating factor of prior DWIs in 1999 and 2003 and charges of open bottle, no no-fault insurance and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. German drove with an alcohol concentration of .22, without no-fault insurance, with about seven grams of marijuana and a open beer in the vehicle on July 5 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. The court found probable cause for the charges. A plea hearing was set for Sept. 29.
MARSHALL - Bobbie Jane LaVoie, 42, of Lynd appeared in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 on a charge of issuance of worthless check. LaVoie wrote at least $200 in checks on a closed account from April 26-May 3 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. LaVoie's lawyer Stephen Ferrazzano said there is a plea offer but his client wanted a continuance to allow time to pay restitution. A plea hearing was set for Sept. 8.
MARSHALL - Michael Casey McGovern, 20, of Marshall pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 to charge of controlled substance crime in the fifth degree-liability for crimes of another. McGovern arranged for the sale of marijuana for $200 at his residence April 16 in Marshall, court records said. McGovern was placed on supervised probation for up to three years and must serve 30 days in jail. McGovern must follow conditions including pay a $500 fine and have a chemical use assessment.
MARSHALL - Jasper Allen Pegel, 41, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Aug. 18 on five counts of criminal sexual conduct. Pegel sexually assaulted a victim, 14, in various incidents from January 2008 to May 2009 in Lyon County, the complaint alleges. Lyon County Assistant Attorney Tricia Zimmer and Pegel's lawyer Joel Solie filed papers. Zimmer opposed any bail reduction. The court denied a motion from Solie to reduce Pegel's bail. An omnibus hearing was set for Sept. 8.
