TYLER - Services for Amandus Henry Thooft, 84, of Tyler will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Dionysius Catholic Church. Visitation continues Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in St. Dionysius Cemetery.
Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler.
He died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home in Tyler.
He was born Jan. 14, 1925, to Ernest J. and Mary (Dobbelaere) Thooft on the family farm in Coon Creek Township, Lyon County. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 11, 1946, and served during World War II at the Sugamo Prison in Japan, being honorably discharged April 28, 1947.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; his children: Arthur of Audubon, Iowa, James of Lake Benton, Theresa Lee of Lafayette, Colo., Leonard of Paxico, Kan., Joseph of Ipswich, S.D., Ellen Popowski of Ivanhoe, Louise Soucie of St. Ann, Ill., Charles of St. Paul, Maria Redmond of Arnold, Mo., Paul of Marshall, Christopher of Tyler, Philip of Bemidji, Matthew of Lucan, Monica of Marshall, and Benjamin of Fort Stewart, Ga.; 47 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers: Etienne "E.R." of Tyler, Raymond of Lynd, and Ernest of Tyler; sisters: Emma Delanghe of Marshall, Marian Van Den Broeke of Marshall, Mary Lanoue of Milroy, and Jeannette Lanoue of Tracy.
