It may be a week earlier than usual, but the Pioneer Power threshing show will still have the familiar chugs of antique tractors and homemade ice cream made from an old gas engine.
The 35th annual Pioneer Power, Inc. "The Good Old Days and Threshing Show" will be Saturday and Sunday in Hanley Falls.
Gates will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Arlan Gustafson, one of the event's organizers, said one of the main reasons the show was moved up a week was to get ready for a traveling Vietnam War memorial that's coming to Hanley Falls Aug. 14-15.
"We needed to get some time to get (the area) cleaned up," Gustafson said. He said organizers are considering keeping the event on the first weekend of August.
Gustafson said the threshing show can bring anywhere between 150 to 200 tractors.
"It depends on what we're featuring," Gustafson said.
This year, the show will feature Oliver, Cocksutt, Hart-Parr and Co-op tractors. Gustafson said one doesn't see too many of these makes as they started out in the "earlier days."
"They go back quite a ways," Gustafson said. "Hart-Parr, a lot of them were after the turn of the century."
Gustafson said the show will also feature Hercules and economy gas engines, but it isn't limited to those types.
"All other models of tractors and gas engines are welcome too," Gustafson said.
The tractors are invited to be in a parade at 1:30 p.m. both days, Gustafson said.
An antique tractor pull will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Gustafson said the pull is for tractors pre-1960. Drivers must be 15 years old or older and prizes will be awarded.
A garden tractor pull will be at 4 p.m. Sunday on the show grounds.
Demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend, which includes lathe making, rug weaving, wood carving, corn shelling and rope making. Gustafson said one of the demonstrations is checking the horsepower on a tractor with a dynometer.
"That's kind of the thing guys like to do, to see how well their tractor will perform," Gustafson said.
Gustafson said a yearly favorite is homemade ice cream made by Clem Anton of Marshall and his sons using an old gas engine.
There is a little something for everyone at the threshing show, Gustafson said. Both days will have music entertainment by Howard and Sonya Hansen, food and a craft show and flea market.
For the kids, there will be a pedal tractor pull at 10 a.m. Sunday, along with a petting zoo and a barrel train, Gustafson said.
There's also a worship service at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Gustafson said.
Gustafson said the Minnesota Machinery Museum will be open during the weekend.
"That's always a big attraction," Gustafson said. "There's going to be a homemade quilt display."
Daily admission is $6, ages 12 and under get in free.
