Yankees clinch Cornbelt South with win over Bird Island
The Milroy Yankees clinched the Cornbelt South division title with a 10-0 road win over Bird Island Wednesday night.
Nathan Deutz started on the mound for the Yankees and went seven scoreless innings, striking out 11 and allowing the lone single on the game. David Schmidt came in for relief and struck out five.
Matt Bauer led the charge from the plate for the Yankees, going 4-for-4, including a double and a home run. Justin Schlemmer drove in two runs after going 2-for-5 from the plate with a double. Micah Gronli also went 2-for-4.
The Yankees are now 21-4 on the season and 14-1 in the Cornbelt. They will continue play on the road Friday night against Brookings.

Minneota 0, Milroy Irish 0
It was a true pitchers duel, and in the end, neither team had to suffer a loss.
The Minneota Mudhens traveled to Marshall to face-off against the Milroy Irish and after 13 innings of scoreless baseball, the game was called because of darkness.
Isaac Dolan threw nine shutout innings for the Irish, striking out nine and allowing just three hits and two walks. Clay Ellis came in for relief in the 10th and closed out the game.
Minneota's Pat O'Brien threw all 13 innings and allowed just two hits, while striking out 14. He allowed four hits.
Minneota had a chance to close out the game in the 11th inning when Tony Shaikoski led the inning off with a walk,and then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Tyler Sonnenburg hit a deep shot to left field, but Irish outfielder Paul Ivers made a diving catch to leave the game scoreless.

Hadley 6, Luverne 2
The Hadley Buttermakers scored in the late innings and improved their season to 12-7 after defeating Luverne 6-2 in Luverne Wednesday night.
The Buttermakers are now 11-4 in the Gopher League.
Paul Counter picked up the win on the mound for Hadley. Counter went seven-plus innings, struck out six and gave up two unearned runs, four hits and three walks.
Eric Elgersma got the save for the Buttermakers. He gave up two hits, one walk and earned two strikeouts.
At the plate, Zach Bruns went 2-for-4, while Max Zwart was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Joe Larson also doubled and Ben Clarke was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
For Luverne, Jared Pick took the loss on the mound in seven innings of work. Zach Olson and Reed VanHulzen both pounded doubles.
Next up, Hadley hosts Fox Lake Saturday at 2 p.m. for a league makeup game. Then the Buttermakers host Wilmont at 2 p.m. Sunday and Adrian at 5 p.m.
