UNOFFICIAL MINUTES - SUBJECT TO CORRECTIONS LYON COUNTY BOARD OF
LYON COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER, MARSHALL, MN
May 1, 2009
9:00 a.m. - Meeting called to order by Chairman Stensrud. Members present: Fenske, Ritter, Goodenow, Nelson, Stensrud, County Administrator Stomberg, Auditor/Treasurer VanOverbeke. Absent: Attorney Maes.
Goodenow moved, seconded by Ritter to approve the agenda. All voted in favor.
Goodenow moved, seconded by Fenske to approve Resolution 15-09. Nelson - I am a little bit disturbed when we give $17,500 for the study and then you come back at us at the Truth in Taxation Meeting and give us hell for spending too much money. Strautz - Who do you mean came back at you? Nelson - We were the biggest contributor also. If you come back for more I wont support it. Strautz - It was a quote from the Chamber Executive which was a request that came from his members. It is a challenging time. What we are doing now we know we aren't going to get these roads built now. Nelson - When you come and request $17,500 for a joy trip to Washington don't bite the hand that feeds you. Fenske - There was a study done by what cities, schools, and counties had done. I was at a meeting for AMC. The county revenue per capita has gone down 10.8. He said exercise fiscal restraint and we have been. The reason the property taxes have gone up is because of the shift from the state government to the local government. The state has shifted $2 billion dollars onto the locals. All voted in favor.
Ritter moved, seconded by Fenske to sign a letter to Representative Colin Peterson in support of a Highway 23 Corridor Study on behalf of the Lyon County Board. All voted in favor.
Stensrud adjourned the meeting.
