Marshall speech team takes first at Fairmont

The Marshall High School Speech Team won first place out of 19 teams at the Fairmont High School invitational tournament Saturday.

Marshall led the team scores by 50 points, over St. Peter, Fairmond and Mankato East, and had the most individual champions of any team at the tournament. A total of 15 students placed in individual events.

Winners in individual events were:

Chris Sanders, champion in Discussion

Kim Homan, champion in Original Oratory

Hayley Moede, champion in Poetry Interpretation

Jenna Surprenant and Margaret Roesler, champions in Duo Interpretation

Kirby Schmidt, champion in Drama Interpretation; second place in Humor Interpretation

Tammy Vo, second place in Drama Interpretation

Margaret Roesler, third place in Humor Interpretation

Emily Jensen, third place in Great Speeches; third place in Informative

Charles Hulsizer and Olivia Bennett, third place in Duo Interpretation

Joe Paskach, third place in Prose Interpretation; fourth place in Humor Interpretation

Amy Her, fifth place in Informative

Jenna Surprenant, fifth place in Original Oratory

Katie Palmer, fifth place in Poetry Interpretation

Allison VanDenBroeke, sixth place in Extemporaneous Reading

Billie Miller, seventh place in Extemporaneous Reading
