Marshall Blue downs Tracy to grab district No. 1 seed
MARSHALL - The Marshall Blue VFW baseball team advanced to the District 3 Final Four next Saturday in Granite Falls with a 15-0 win over Tracy Saturday afternoon at Legion Field.
Andrew Larsen pitched all five innings of the game and struck out 10. Blue pounded out 15 hits while Tracy committed six errors.
At the plate for Blue, Andrew Mathiowetz went 2-for-4, Nathan Schaefer went 3-for-5, Cody Mather went 2-for-3 and Darrick Allpress went 4-for-4 with a double.
Zach Campbell took the loss for Tracy. Blue will be the No. 1 seed at next weekend's Final Four. Tracy will get the No. 2 seed after beating Olivia 10-1 Sunday. Worthington has also advanced to the Final Four and Slayton will play Pipestone for the right to advance today in Pipestone.

MARSHALL - Tracy advanced to the District 3 Final Four round with a 10-1 win over Olivia Sunday at Legion Field.
The game was tied at 1 until Tracy scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and six times in the sixth.
Eric Carter got the win in seven innings of work. He struck out five, walked one and gave up four hits. At the plate for Tracy, Carter went 2-for-4 and Dominic Dolan, Shane Erickson and Jeremy Hoflock all had doubles.

District 3 South Division
Slayton 8, Marshall Orange 3
PIPESTONE - The Marshall Orange VFW baseball team saw its season come to an end with an 8-3 loss to Slayton in the District 3 South Division playoffs Sunday in Pipestone.
Orange played twice Sunday after being rained out Saturday. Orange beat Adrian 8-3 to advance to play Slayton. Slayton beat Orange twice in the playoffs to advance to the south division championship game today against Pipestone.
Mason Schnaible took the loss against Slayton on the mound. He struck out five and gave up 10 hits. At the plate for Orange (13-13), Josh Flygare and Ben Sanders had two hits each, Schnaible hit a leadoff home run and Lee Christianson had an RBI hit.
"We had a great season," Orange head coach Bryan Nikkel said. "The kids played extremely well. We hustled and our guys didn't have anything to hang their heads about. We constantly improved. That's the ultimate goal: to get better every time you play. We did that."

PIPESTONE - Riley Carpenter threw 6 2/3 strong innings to help Orange eliminate Adrian 8-3 in the District 3 South Division playoffs Sunday.
Carpenter struck out five and walked one while giving up six hits. Ben Sanders threw the final 1/3 for Orange.
At the plate for Marshall, Josh Flygare had two hits and Ben Sanders had a two-run single. Hunter Kontz also had an RBI on a squeeze play.
