Starbucks to close 600 U.S. stores; future of Marshall franchise unknown
Starbucks Corp. said in a press release on its Web site that it will close approximately 600 "underperforming company-operated stores in the U.S. market."
A list of specific stores that will be closed has not been published.
The Marshall franchise was unable to comment on the closing, but Starbucks Corp. did contact the Independent on the closings.
"Details for specific locations are still being finalized. The stores identified for closure are spread across all major U.S. markets with approximately 70 percent of them opened since fiscal year 2006. Out of respect and dignity for our partners, and our desire to share this information with impacted partners first, we are not publishing a full list of the stores," a company statement said.
The Marshall Starbucks opened in March 2006.
