MARSHALL - Tyler Alcorn went all 10 innings on the mound and drove in the winning run in Marshall Blue's 7-6 VFW win over Worthington Thursday night.
Alcorn drove Nick DeRuyck in with the game-winner with a single to right field. DeRuyck started the inning with a walk and then Nathan Schaefer and Andrew Larson both reached on bunt singles. After Aaron Antony grounded into a fielder's choice for the first out, Alcorn got down 0-2 to Worthington reliever Steven Kremer.
"Tyler got a fastball up and hit a line drive to right," Blue head coach Matt Suby said. "Tyler couldn't have had a more perfect game. He had situations on the mound and battled through. Early in the game we got down, but our guys battled back when we needed them."
Alcorn went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and had six strikeouts, four walks and gave up nine hits on the mound.
Also for Marshall (8-9), Matt Felton went 3-for-5 with a double, Cody Mather went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI and Larson and Schaefer both had two hits.
"This was a big win for us," Suby said. "We didn't give any extra outs. Worthington came in 24-2. Our guys made a concerted effort to stop their hot streak."
Up next, Marshall is at Granite Falls at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
