Customers of Woodstock Telephone Co. experienced problems with their long distance service Friday morning.
It was at the least second day in the past three with service problems. Woodstock Telephone Company, which serves customers in Russell, Ruthton, Garvin, Woodstock, and Holland were unable to receive long distance calls for a little over an hour. Customers in Russell were also unable to receive calls from the Marshall area which is not a long distance call.
The telephone company is installing a new switch that caused the interruptions, a phone company source said.
Phone lines in the same area also experienced problems such as dropped calls on Wednesday morning for a few hours. Customers had trouble calling out long distance, as well as with calls from Russell to Marshall, said the source
. Calls made Friday morning from the Marshall Independent to various numbers including First Independent Bank in Russell and the Woodstock Telephone Company in Ruthton could not be completed Friday morning. Audie Sanderson, who works at the First Independent Bank in Russell said they had received an e-mail from the First Independent Bank in Marshall noting that calls to the Russell branch wouldn’t go through
. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office also said that calls to Russell and Ruthton weren’t able to be completed.
County sheriff’s offices in Lyon County and Pipestone County said 911 calls within the area affected were able to go through as normal.
The Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office said they received calls from the affected areas during the time when customers experienced issues. Ruthton, Holland and Woodstock are in Pipestone County.
