Financial advising forum worth your time
POSTED: April 26, 2008
A group of financial advisor professionals willing to share their advice with you at a free public meeting Monday night may cause you to say, “what’s the catch? There has got to be a sales pitch.”
But in this case there is none.
“Absolutely not,” said Barb Berkenpas the coordinator of the Marshall Financial Empowerment Collaborative. “How often does that happen?”
Members of the Marshall Financial Empowerment Collaborative will present “Preparing for the Future … A Wealth of Savings & Retirement Information at 7 p.m. Monday at the Marshall Adult Community Center.
It’s free. It’s open to all. And there is no sales pitch.
That’s because the collaborative and Marshall Community Services believe it’s important to cooperate to help area residents learn more about how to save in general and how to save for retirement.
“I give credit to the professionals involved,” said Lois Schmidt, the non-profit resource specialist for Bremer in Marshall. “It’s all about the community and their interest in educating the public.”
For two years collaborative members have provided information, workshops and a Web site www.marshallmoney.org to the public to offer help on financial planning, from savings accounts to handling financial mistakes.
And they’ve done it because they like the work and they care.
Here’s a chance to take advantage of that dedication.
These days, thoughts of establishing a savings account may seem out of reach for single adults or young families. Or thoughts of retirement in 10 or 15 years may seem very scary as you worry if you will have enough to live on.
On Monday, you have the chance to learn ways to save or ways to enhance your retirement savings. It would be smart to find the time to attend the presentation.
It’s free. It’s provided by professionals. And you don’t have to sit through a sales pitch to get it.
