MARSHALL — Raymond Louis Cox, 26, of St. Paul appeared in custody in Lyon County District Court Friday on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle. Cox stole a car valued at $2,000 on Nov. 14 in Lyon County, the complaint alleges. Lyon County Assistant Attorney Tricia Zimmer had filed papers and Cox’s lawyer, Cecil Naatz, was to file within a week. An omnibus hearing was set for April 15.
MARSHALL — Herbert Raymond Howell Jr, 23, of Granite Falls appeared in Lyon County District Court Friday in a probation violation hearing. Howell admitted violating his probation. Howell violated his probation by failing to meet with his probation agent and failing to abstain, court records said. The hearing was continued to April 2 for sentencing. Howell will attempt to complete a chemical use assessment for the hearing.
MARSHALL — Jose Luis Ramirez, 33, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Monday on two counts of third-degree driving while impaired with the aggravating factor of three children under 16 in the car and charges of open bottle and speed. Ramirez drove while impaired with three children, 13, 11 and 9 in the car, with open beer in the car and drove 42 mph in a 30 mph zone, the complaint alleges. A plea hearing was set for April 8.
MARSHALL — Joshua Oluwa-Tosin Ekunwe, 21, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Monday on charges of criminal damage to property in the third degree and disorderly conduct. Ekunwe kicked in a door and caused $305 in damage, screamed and argued with a victim and caused alarm on Feb. 10 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. An omnibus hearing was set for April 8. Ekunwe was released on prior conditions set by the court.
MARSHALL — Martha Ann Hartson, 24, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Monday on charges of theft by wrongfully obtaining assistance and perjury. Hartson falsely filled out forms that said her children were living with her when they were not and wrongly received about $11,200 in welfare assistance from July of 2005 to January of 2007, the complaint alleges. Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes filed papers. An omnibus hearing was set for April 8.
MARSHALL — Sale Taueva, 34, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Monday on a charge of interference with privacy. Taueva peered into bedroom windows on Feb. 6 on a section of street in Marshall, the complaint alleges. Cecil Naatz was appointed Taueva’s lawyer. Taueva was released on conditins he abstain from alcohol and drugs, stay off the named street block and other conditions. A Rule 8 hearing was set for April 7.
MARSHALL — Bonnie Lou Iverson, 46, pleaded innocent in Lyon County Disrict Court Tuesday to charges of theft by wrongfully obtaining assistance and perjury. Iverson wrongfully obtained welfare assistance of $3,422 and completed documents with false information and it was found out in January of 2007, the complaint alleges. A one-day jury trial will be set.
MARSHALL — Steven Ray Lawrence Clark, 21, of Marshall was sentenced in Lyon County District Court Tuesday on a charge of assault in the second degree. Clark was sentenced to 330 days in jail.
MARSHALL — Ascencion Alcoler Castro, 62, of Hanley Falls did not appear in Lyon ounty District Court Tuesday on a charge of aggravated forgery. Castro used a forged alien card to obtain employment in Cottonwood and verify his identity, the complaint alleges. A warrant was to be issued for Castro.
MARSHALL — Stacey Lynn Byrne, 35, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Tuesday for sentencing on charges of no insurance and driving after revocation. Byrne was sentenced to 180 days in jail with all but 10 days stayed on the insurance charge. Byrne must serve 10 days in jail or complete 80 hours of Community Work Service and pay $382 in a fine, fee and surcharge. On the DAR charge, Byrne must pay $482 in a fine, fee and surcharge and follow other conditions.
MARSHALL — Jaqlyn Emily Downing, 24, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Tuesday on two counts of third-degree driving while impaired with the aggravating factor of a prior DWI in 2002 and a charge of driving without a valid license. Downing drove without a valid license and with an alcohol concentration of .14 on Jan. 12 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. Marshall Assistant City Attorney Lori Buchheim and Downing’s lawyer Cecil Naatz argued on probable cause. The court took the case under advisement.
MARSHALL — Shelby Eugene Gronewold, 32, homeless, appeared in Lyon County District Court Monday and Wednesday in two different files. Gronewold appeared Monday on charges of domestic assault-fear and domestic assault-harm with the aggravating factor of a prior domestic assault in 2006. Gronewold grabbed and pushed a victim to the ground the victim was injured Feb. 1 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. Judge Geoge Harrelson denied a motion from Gronewold’s lawyer Stephen Ferrazzano to dismiss the charges. The motion was filed March 11. In the second file in Wednesday’s appearance, Gronewold is charged with domestic assault-fear and domestic assault-harm with the aggravating factor of the prior domestic assault in 2006 and charges of interference with an emergency call and fleeing a peace officer-non motor vehicle. Gronewold prevented a victim from calling 911, hit and yelled at the victim and rode away from police on his bike, Feb. 12 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. Lyon County Assistant Attorney Tricia Zimmer and Ferrazzano argued on a motion from Ferrazzano to dismiss the charges. The court took the case under advisement. If the motion to dismiss is denied, Gronewold demands a speedy jury trial.
MARSHALL — Alexis Eduardo Torres Castillo, 28, of Marshall appeared in Lyon County District Court Wednesday on charges of terroristic threat and domestic assault with the aggravating factor of a prior domestic assault in 2007 and a charge of obstructing the legal process. Castillo hit and threatened a victim and refused to cooperate with police on Feb. 10 in Marshall, the complaint alleges. Castillo’s lawyer, Pam Neumann, and Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes argued on Neumann’s motion to dismiss the charges. The court took the case under advisement.
