Convicted rapist destroyed explicit 'fantasy logs'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A convicted serial rapist has destroyed explicit journals that could have been evidence for officials fighting to prevent his release from custody.

The Star Tribune reports (http://strib.mn/1kGnYJg ) an attorney for Thomas Duvall acknowledged at a hearing Monday his client had destroyed so-called "fantasy logs" he kept while undergoing therapy in the Minnesota Sex Offender Program.

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson had sought copies of Duvall's logs, which reportedly contain fantasies of sexually violent encounters. A hearing on Duvall's proposed discharge that was set for this week has been postponed to mid-September so psychologists can review his treatment history.

The case became politically charged last year when Republican lawmakers blasted Gov. Mark Dayton for failing to oppose Duvall's release.

Duvall assaulted a string of teenage girls in the 1970s and 1980s.
