Driver escapes serious injury in overpass plunge

January 8, 2014
Associated Press

LITTLE CANADA, Minn. (AP) — A driver escaped serious injury when her pickup truck flew off an icy interstate overpass and onto a frozen pond below in a Twin Cities suburb.

Thick ice on the pond in Little Canada prevented the pickup from breaking through Tuesday. Fifty-four-year-old Anne Spiess, of Maplewood, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Video from the Minnesota Department of Transportation shows the truck flying over a railing on the overpass before crashing below.
