December 9, 2013
Associated Press

IRON RIVER, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say the suspect in the killings of an elderly couple in Bayfield County is in an induced coma at a Minnesota hospital.

Sheriff Paul Susienka told a news conference Monday that the Saturday night 911 call for help came from one of the victims, 76-year-old Eunice Crain of Iron River.

Sheriff's deputies found Eunice Crain and her 79-year-old husband, Jim Crain, dead and a 44-year-old man injured.

WDIO-TV ( ) reports the sheriff says the deaths were not caused by a firearm, but says it's too early to say what caused their deaths. He says the suspect's injuries were caused by cutting.

The suspect is being held under guard at a Duluth, Minn., hospital.
