Mayor: Person sought in homicide is ex-boyfriend

GRANITE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Officials say the man being sought for questioning in the fatal shooting of a Granite Falls woman is the victim's ex-boyfriend.

Granite Falls Mayor Dave Smiglewski says 26-year-old Kara Monson was killed and her current boyfriend was critically injured when someone broke into Monson's home early Monday and shot them. Smiglewski tells the Star Tribune ( ) the shooting has shaken members of the community with a population of about 2,900.

The condition of the 28-year-old boyfriend at Hennepin County Medical Center has not been released.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is asking the public to be on the lookout for a 1996 Brown GMC Sierra pickup with Minnesota license plate 032-GGL. Authorities say the driver may be armed.
