This is what happens when you have a venture capitalist running a company. They only know how to make money, they know nothing about retail or customer service. Now the people here, alex and fergus have to pay for it. Granted, I'm sure some people here thought they were already closed.

Area retail will be diminished with the loss of Kmart. In this case it's not a shortage of customer service. It's a shortage of customers who care. It's always amazed me to see a crowded lot where there is no customer service vs a ghost lot where there is. Not to mention loss of jobs and tax revenue. Wonder if the powers that be are scurrying to present a package of concessions to try to keep an existing business as aggressively as attracting a new one.

I quit going to K-Mart years ago because their prices were high and the staff didn't seem to care about the customer.

Very sorry to hear KMart is closing - my favorite "Mart" in Marshall by far and the place I do most of my shopping (along with Runnings). It would be great if Marshall can find a way to keep KMart here. KMart has been a good business citizen of Marshall and a good employer, I will miss the store and wish KMart and its employees the best... and no, I won't be shopping at Walmart more than I do now... their prices are worse than KMart and its not my kind of place.

mnblueliner, apparently you haven't paid attention to kmarts prices, because whenever I peeked through there, they are always higher than Walmart, and sometimes Hyvee. Even, by chance they were lower, they can always be price matched. Which is why they couldn't compete. Every weekend, you would see Walmart, Shopko, Hyvee lots packed with people, but you would see less than a dozen cars in their parking lot. Also towards the end, them being a "great employer," wasn't true. I knew someone who worked there, they hadn't had a raise in three years. Last thing i will say, is that their building will probably have to be torn down, as no one will want it, since its in such a terrible location (just like the "mall").
