March 20, 2013

To the editor: First, I would like to say thank you to the Marshall High School staff and teachers for all they did when my son broke his ankle. They were very accommodating....

If the school carried liability insurance, their deductible would be quite high, too. Likely $50,000.

I'm sorry for your son's injury and hope he's doing well. My children attend a different district and the first day of school each year they come home with a packet explaining how the school's insurance doesn't provide "no-fault" coverage for injuries to students. They also include an offer to buy your own protection from an outfit called Student Assurance. It's $14 a year, more if you want to include sports coverage. If Marshall doesn't offer it now they could maybe look into it. Good luck to your son.

Thank you for not filing a lawsuit. There is too much of that"how can we make someone else pay" attitude already.
