I also agree with BigDon that this new coach did a terrific job, but these days you have to go outside the old Southwest Conference for the type of competition that will make you ready to compete with the likes of a Hutchinson in football, for instance.

I recall that season like it was yesterday. No one can diminish it. Today, though, is a different story. There are teams actively recruiting athletes and private schools even offer scholarships to outstanding players all over the place. Open enrollment has also caused the movement of the most talented toward certain schools. Hopkins comes to mind in this regard. Maybe the schools playing these games should have their own tournament and those staying with homegrown players, theirs.

"They've gone out, got out of their comfort zone and done real well. I like the way it looks for them." Marshall in the past 10 years has always played tough teams from Sioux City,South Dakota teams etc. I think the coaching change is the biggest difference this year.
