After rereading the article twice I find no reference to teaching english to illegal immigrants. If there is a pigeon eating the chicken feed do we stop feeding the chickens? Ridiculous! We get our AK47 and take out the pigeon. Why are some people so paranoid about helping someone who may not deserve help?

wbl - it is money that we shouldn't have to spend on those in this country illegally. You on the other hand could start a private fund and I would support that.

English instruction at public expense for ESL students and families is an excellent investment that will certainly help those students be successful in science and math classes. It will also help integrate them into our workforce. It is an investment in their future, and ours.

Neither of the two of you have a clue - why spend extra money for teaching English when that money could be spent elsewhere - or not at all?

How about using that money for science and math?

Ranger I am aware of several families who are bilingual and speak their parents native language in their home. I think this is common in areas with recent immigrants. It is my opinion that tax dollars are well spent on education. Especially if it will help our newest citizens or potential citizens. Sooo do ya think we should teachum ta speek minnesotian too then?

Learning English enhances their ability to get jobs and then they pay taxes for your retirement. It's a sad way to live that some people try to see the negative in everything.

It would be nice to spend our tax dollars on citizens. I am unaware of those citizens born in this country that do not speak English in the home.
