Baptism

March 10, 2010

To the editor: The statement, “Baptism is a sign of salvation and not a means of salvation,” appeared in “What I Must I Do To Be Saved?” (Feb. 26, 2010). In the Bible, God reveals the value of Baptism: “Noah and his family, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also . . .” (1 Peter 3:20,21) Baptism was instituted and commanded by Jesus, to be administered “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19) The water of Baptism has God’s promise of salvation attached to it”: “He (God) saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying.” (Titus 3:5-8) God’s promise of forgiveness is “for you and to your children and for all. . .
