Profiles II 2008

Dual support

March 24, 2008

BALATON — If you live in a small town and want to get things done, you pretty much have to take the initiative yourself, say two Balaton residents. Volunteering is a big part of Greg and Julie Erickson’s life. He has been a member of the city council for 12 years, been a member of the fire department for 18 years, (including eight as fire chief), is on Economic Development Association, and is a member of the Balaton Sportsmen Club.

“If somebody doesn’t do it, it doesn’t get done,” said Greg Erickson. “It’s a matter of community pride. I have a lot of family here...”

She is the president of the Balaton Chamber of Commerce and is in charge of Fun Fest, Balaton’s annual town celebration. She has been the superintendent of Sunday School for years and now is on the church council. She is also on the Balaton beautification committee.
