Two Helga Estby presentations in Marshall
June 26, 2008

MARSHALL — Former Yellow Medicine County resident Helga Estby will be featured during the Marshall/Lyon County celebration of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial. The celebration is being called "Bold Spirit," which exemplifies the personality of Estby. Estby's story will be told by Katherine Ellis Linstrom, an educator and history enthusiast who will portray the Yellow Medicine County pioneer woman during two events. Linstrom will discuss the Linda Lawrence Hunt book "Bold Spirit: Helga Estby's Forgotten Walk Across Victorian America" from 3-5 p.m. June 26 at the Daily Grind in Marshall. She will be joined by Southwest Minnesota State University history professor emeritus Joe Amato, author of "On Foot: A History of Walking." Linstrom will give a second presentation at 7 p.m. in front of the Lyon County Historical Society Museum in downtown Marshall as part of the Thursdays on Third events.
