Shovel is just one of the options

January 20, 2010 - Karin Elton
Finally I have wheels again. After driving a series of junker cars which subsequently malfunctioned one after another during that last lovely snowstorm, I have another (junker) car. I’ve been bumming rides from my co-workers and have been going nuts over being dependent and house bound.

The “new” car (at least it was new in 1994) is a little Ford Tempo which will take some getting used to because I have been driving SUVs for years now. It has a manual transmission which I like because it makes it more interesting to drive.

Judging from the stickers on the car, it has been driven by a series of college students. It also has a bumper sticker that says “My dog is smarter than your honor student.” I definitely have to remove that even though it seems melded to the car. The stick shift has a silver skull for a knob. I’ll keep that. It seems like a friendly fellow.

Interestingly, the car came with a shovel in the back seat. I said to the kid who we bought it from, “Don’t you want your shovel?” “No, you keep it.” Hmmmm. I’m sure the car, which is low to the ground, will capably traverse the snow-filled streets that we will soon have again.
