The sticking point

January 8, 2010 - Deb Gau
Working from the office on Thursday earned me a new appreciation for the people who go to work in weather emergencies, like plow drivers and law enforcement officers. There was an endless string of dispatches coming from the newsroom radio, and at times it seemed like all of them were reporting people stuck in snowdrifts on the road or in the ditch. People who should've known better than to be out on the highway, really. The dispatch report about the car that got stuck in the same place twice — once on the way to Redwood Falls, once on the way back — was jaw-dropping.

I know I'm kinda privileged as a "townie." Lots of people work miles from where they live, the kids go to school in town or in a neighboring town, and all that stuff needs to be taken care of. The truckers have to keep moving. But at the same time, you'd think Minnesotans of all people would recognize a Very Bad Day To Drive when they saw one.
