Time off from TV

I haven’t watched television since June 1. I love not having TV. There is more time to the day. I moved into a new house and the cable hasn’t been hooked up yet. The cable company has to dig and that has to be scheduled for some time in the future.

I don’t miss it, but my kids do. My mom lives with us now and she liked “Wheel of Fortune,” of course.

Maybe I don’t miss it because it’s summer, but I don’t think so. Yes, I usually watch more TV in the winter months, but I think TV is an addiction. A person doesn’t realize how much they really watch. It’s a huge waste of time for the most part. For instance, I was even watching “Housewives of New York” on Bravo and “Rob and Big” on MTV. No wait, those are examples of worthwhile programming. OK. I was watching “Frankenfish” on the SciFi Channel where a 20-foot perch jumps into the shower (where, coincidentally, a woman was bathing) on a houseboat. No, that’s another good TV-watching experience.

Bad TV...OK anything my kids watch on Nickelodeon such as “Full House” reruns or “I-Carly” or the icky “Zoey 101.”

So it’s good to take some time off from TV and break the habit and then watch more responsibly when you do return to the tube. I wonder if “Frankenfish, Part II” is out yet.
