Booty No. 2!

August 3, 2009 - Per Peterson
I got a pretty good sense about what Vikings fans think of Tavaris Jackson while at training camp Saturday. Jackson, as you know, when down with a leg injury during an 11-on-11 drill at camp. Note to Mr LeTroy Guion (the defensive lineman who rolled up on Jackson’s leg): There’s a reason QBs wear red jerseys at camp; red means stop, my friend. If you see someone wearing red, you don’t touch him. You don't breathe on him or even look at him. Back to the fan reaction. After it became apparent Jackson got hurt, the crowd reacted quickly — not in horror or worry, but in laughter, actual laughter. There were a number of fans joking about the latest twist to the team’s QB saga. One guy yelled, “Booty’s now our No. 2 quarterback! It's about time!” before resuming chuckling. This was a small sample of fans, I understand that, but it spoke to the team’s QB situation and failure to talk Brett Favre into joining them. I’d be willing to bet the majority of Vikings fans would’ve loved to see Favre in purple this year whether they’d admit it or not. Now it’s officially become a laughing matter. Pretty sad. Jackson’s injury isn’t too serious, and he’ll probably be back on the field next week. My question is, does anyone really WANT him back on the field?
