American Idol, again

March 11, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
OK, it’s about time I did a blog on this year’s “American Idol.” With the lovely winter weather last night, I was actually home to sit and watch the two-hour long episode. It was Michael Jackson night. Yea. I’ll admit, when I was in sixth grade, I thought Michael Jackson was the best ever. I had a little section of my bedroom wall covered with pictures of him that I cut out of magazines and the National Enquirer. C’mon, Thriller... Last night was a mixed bag of Jackson tunes, ranging from “Rockin’ Robin” by the Jackson 5 to “Beat It” to “Man in the Mirror.”

Who did I think did a good job? Hard to say. I enjoyed Kris bringing out the guitar for his song. Who knew you can play an acoustic guitar on a Jackson song? Danny Gokey was actually OK. I could have done without Megan’s cawing at the end of “Rockin’ Robin.” She did a reasonably decent job on the song and then she had to throw in that caw, caw at the end. I was like “what the heck was that?” Almost thought a crow was outside my window.

And poor Anoop. Why did he have to go and choose “Beat It”? And apparently I wasn’t the only one who thought he was wearing a Members Only jacket.

Adam Lambert...still don’t really see the excitement about him. Sure, he’s good-looking. Sure he has stage presence. I’m just not a big fan of his voice. But what do I know? Tonight, two contestants will be eliminated. Plus, there’s a surprise twist of sorts. What can it be? Word is that American Idol’s kind of a dying show and this might be a way to revive it. (then why is Big Brother still on CBS?)

Will I keep watching this season? Sure. Why break a tradition that started with season 2?
