Cindy goes high-speed and other adventures

February 10, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
This past weekend, I set up my new laptop with high-speed Internet. Now this is a big step for me as I’ve been using a dinosaur of a computer for the last few years. First I had my brother’s old computer when he upgraded and then I had one that he had picked up from an auction at our old grade school. Yes, I’ve had Windows ‘95 and ‘98 respectively. Sure I was able to get on the Internet and do chat on Yahoo messenger, but I had dial-up and the computer was unbelievably slow. I couldn’t download photos to my computer, couldn’t watch any YouTube videos, couldn’t really load up certain Web sites. Basically, I couldn’t do a whole lot with my old computer.

Since I’ve had high-speed for the last few days, I’ve been able to do Facebook chat a lot easier and have caught up with a couple of high school classmates that I haven’t talked to in 16 or so years. I’ve discovered www.hulu.com where I can watch TV programs and some movies for free if I want to put up with commercials. So far, I’ve watched an episode of the “Rumbling Hearts” anime and a few minutes of an episode of “Ghost Hunters International” and “What’s Happening Now?” I think I’ll find myself tuning into Hulu quite often.

Ross and I went to see the movie “Coraline” in 3D on Sunday. I think the only time I’ve really watched some form of 3D movie was when some horror movie was on TV and you could pick up this chintzy 3D glasses at Tom Thumb. The ones we got at the movie theater in Willmar were a little more durable. I don’t know, but for some reason, I got a massive headache while watching the movie. I normally don’t get headaches, but this one was awful and I couldn’t really enjoy the movie all that much. It was a good movie though. I recommend it for anyone, especially those who are fans of “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
