February 2, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
There I was at the SMSU Ballroom Saturday night wearing an orange gingham dress and trying to blend in.
Actually, a few of us from the Marshall Area Stage Company were helping out at the annual Prairie Home Hospice Charity Ball. This year's theme was "State Fair." We served as greeters, helped out with the games and sold some drink tickets. We were all wearing a costume of some sort — carnival barker, farmer, 4-H kid and even a cow (yep, the library’s own Paula Nemes was in a cow costume).
I didn’t get there until roughly 6:25 p.m. By that time, most of the games were done, cakes and bottle of wine were won and I was trying to figure out what I could do besides look cute in a gingham dress. So I worked the drink ticket table for a while. People did take notice of us in our get-ups. I think my outfit was called “cute” a couple of times.
It was fun, but I was so glad to get out of that “cute” dress.
