I Wanna Be A Rock Star

November 20, 2008 - Cindy Votruba
This past weekend, I tried Guitar Hero 3 for the first time in my life. In fact, it was probably the first time I’ve played a video game since my brother’s old Ninetendo 64 and I played a round of Duck Hunt or Mario (the games that came with the system). Before that, it was the Atari 2600. I was pretty adept at age 10, making it through the 20-minute time limit of Pitfall and getting a pretty decent score on video pinball. But to tell you the truth, I never really kept up with video games since then. Must be the bad hand-eye coordination.

Anyways, back to Guitar Hero 3. My friend (whose system it was) had me go through the tutorial and try to get used to where to place my fingers on the buttons of the plastic guitar’s fret. I did OK (maybe not that great). We decided to do a cooperative song, “Barricuda” by Heart. I chose a character, which looked like a purple-haired anime girl. I tried to get into the rhythm of the song, but my left hand and right hand were out of sync and I kept pushing the wrong buttons. Of course, we were booed off the stage. Then we tried another song. We barely got past 10 seconds. I just let my friend show me what the game’s all about. He even did a rock challenge...but lost.

After all was said and done and the game was put away, my friend says that we never got to play the Wii. Maybe next time...
