November 10, 2008 - Cindy Votruba
This past Saturday I spent more than 11 hours with the Southwest Minnesota State University Anime Club as it was doing one of its 24-hour overload events. That’s right, 24 hours of watching Japanese animation. There was a break for dinner around 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. when the group moved from a residence hall television lounge to Charter Hall 201.
Once we all moved to CH 201, couches were brought in, food was put on the lecture table and everyone settled in to watch the entire series of “Mezzo” (that’s what the group decided, to watch an action anime).
OK, I was hanging out with a friend of mine who’s into anime and more or less part of the club even though he’s not a student. I’m still getting my feet wet with watching different series. Besides “Mezzo,” I watched most of a series called “Grenadier,” another action show on Saturday. The comments and discussions being thrown around by the group members was interesting to hear, even though I didn’t know what to add to the conversation.
My friend and I ended up leaving “anime overload” before midnight. I guess we’re getting too old to stay up all night.
And now I have a new series to watch as my friend loaned me “Ah, My Goddess.” I’ll let you know if I like it or not.
