Morning commute

If you think your commute is bad — maybe someone didn’t signal a turn — Lynne Tracy, a U.S. consulate in Pakistan, left her home in Peshawar about 8 a.m. Tuesday with a “bodyguard provided by the local anti-terrorism squad” when “two men with AK-47s jumped in front of her armored vehicle and sprayed it with bullets,” reported the Associated Press.

First, it’s kind of cool and James Bondy, to have an armored vehicle and a bodyguard provided by the local anti-terrorism squad.

Second, that driver was cool to jam the vehicle into reverse and speed away. He actually did his job, not like Lady Diana’s keystone kops.

The morning commute wasn’t so great for a nearby rickshaw driver either. The driver was hospitalized after his three-wheeled taxi was hit by the consulate vehicle’s getaway.

So, I guess we should appreciate our commute troubles of maybe having to wait at several red lights on Main Street, or if we tangle with Metro traffic, have a lot of construction or slowdowns to contend with.

At least our SUVs aren’t being sprayed with bullets from an AK-47.
