The right of spring

February 19, 2014 - Karin Elton
I think it can be safely said that most people are not fans of this winter — the prolonged periods of extremely frigid temperatures don’t seem right even for hardy Minnesotans.

People are hoping for spring and, even though Minnesota winters can last until April, are trying to keep the hope of warmer weather alive.

I did a little shopping in Willmar last week and the clerk pulled out a bright lime green bag saying, “we just brought out our spring bags today — we’re ready for spring.”

Marshallites reveled in yesterday’s balmy temperatures that hovered around 40 degrees. Leaving Hy-Vee, I saw a guy with just a long-sleeved shirt on. The cashier and bag person carried on a conversation about the warm weather as they rang up and bagged my groceries. They noted that the customers seemed a little happier, The bagger said he felt it too, adding “and I’m usually a hard guy to get along with.” He said if he could have, he would have come to work in a T-shirt and cutoffs.
