No football mom hereEven though I don’t have a kid in high school football, I recently attended the Football for Moms class that Coach Terry Bahlmann puts on every year.I thought I could write a story about it and inform others who don’t know a football from an Easter egg. Well, I still have to write the story, but I don’t know how informative it will be. I got to the hot, airless room at the high school on time, 6:30 p.m., but Bahlmann was already at the white board making Xs and Os. He was talking about the offensive line and center and wide receivers. It’s all Geek to me. The only time I did understand what he was talking about was when he explained the various levels of penalties. If you do something wrong, you get a consequence. I understand that. The worse the action is, the greater the penalty. That makes sense. I didn’t understand some of the plays he mapped out — “a 42 trap is one of our favorite plays,” he said. OK. So it will be interesting to see what I come up with for the Aug. 30 Our Region page. Every Saturday, we reporters take turns writing for that page. We have to come up with an idea weeks in advance and have it written the week before it is published. That page is geared toward photos and should be something of general interest — someone’s hobby or something. One time I wrote about someone adopting a child from China and another time I wrote about people riding bikes in the wintertime. Those topics made for good photos, but the pictures I took Monday at the Football For Moms class were of football players simulating plays and penalties in a classroom, not on the field. The lighting and background aren't the greatest. Well, no more procrastinating. I have a blank page to fill. I have to write a story on a topic I knew nothing about going in and am more confused about after the session. I may have to use the 42 trap play.
