Clarkfield Heart of the Prairie Days
May 31, 2013 - Samantha Downing
All of my life I have been attending the Clarkfield Heart of the Prairie Day parade. Both of my great-grandparents lived in the nursing home there, and we would always find a spot to sit and watch the Grande Parade with them. This week I was given the task to write a preview for the celebrations, and last night I traveled there to take pictures of the kiddie parade. It was really fun to see because when I was younger I was a part of this mini parade. The kids have so much fun, which makes it fun to watch. I didn't have time to stay for the other parade, but it was a cool experience to be able to see something that I had done when I was younger. Luckily, I had the opportunity this spring to do an internship at SMSU, otherwise there is no way I would have been able to confidently walk up to strangers to take their pictures and get their information. I firmly believe that my previous internship and my decision to join the Marshall Speech Team my sophomore year have contributed greatly to the amount of confidence I now have. Now, I have yet more opportunities to put my newly found confidence into practice. It is awesome to be able to write about what is going to happen, and then be able to attend the event to see how it turns out.
