There's a leak in Theater 3

July 29, 2008 - Cindy Votruba
I haven’t paid to see a movie in Marshall in probably seven years. OK, let me explain that...Once in a while, I’ll get free movie passes as an incentive for the two papers routes I do. So two routes means two movie passes (and two $5 gift cards to Cold Stone, 2 gift certificates for free Domino’s pizza, etc.). I think the only time I did pay for a movie in Marshall was when I wanted to see “Orange County” and I didn’t have a free pass.

Sunday night, I used one of the free passes to see “Momma Mia!” I do like the music of ABBA and I do like Colin Firth, so it was a win-win of sorts. There’s not much plot to the movie, but it was good, cheesy fun. How often do you get to hear Pierce Brosnan belt out “S.O.S.”?

Because I use a free pass, I usually make up for it by getting snacks. My snack of choice is the kiddie combo, where you get popcorn, a small pop and a box of Mike and Ike’s. I’ve been doing that for years. Back then it was $2.75. Now it’s $4.50. It may look weird, a 36-year-old toting a kiddie combo, but it costs a lot less than a bag of popcorn and a medium pop. I’ve had people say “hey, that’s a great idea” when I come away from the counter with my little cardboard tray.

There was a leak in theater 3 when I went to the 5 p.m. show. So there was a little bit of a delay. No biggie, it gave me more time to get my kiddie combo. I find a seat behind a railing (I’m in one of the stadium seating theaters) and recline. Aaah, heaven. Then just as the previews were about to start, a couple of women come in and where do they sit? Right behind me. So much for sitting back. But it was OK, the seats were comfortable.
