Road-tripping to a show

May 30, 2011 - Cindy Votruba
Sunday found me and Ross heading to Bloomington with a couple of theater friends to see the Bloomington Civic Theater performance of "Kiss Me Kate." The Marshall Area Stage Company is doing this show for its summer musical, so it was an opportunity to borrow some set pieces from the Bloomington production. Hey, it saves a lot of time and money in creating a set. The Bloomington show was full of great performances from the principal roles to the chorus. And it had wonderful backdrops and sets. The MASC version of the show is still a little short on men, so there was some (joking) consideration of grabbing a couple of male actors to go along with the set pieces we wanted. Of course spending six hours in a vehicle was a little tedious, but we all made the most of it. There's a detour on 212 between Bird Island and Glencoe (can't remember really where it begins and ends). Anyway, on the way there, we hit the detour fine. But on the way home, we did turn off for the detour, but I guess we missed the turn to get on the county road where the detour continues. All of a sudden we're in a bigger town than expected. "Hey, how did we end up in Hutchinson?" No one was really paying attention at the time we were supposed to turn onto the county road, but we still managed to find our way back on track by taking Highway 7 through Cosmos and turning at Lake Lillian. Yeah, we can have some (mis)adventures!
