| | Hot glue and gravyNovember 24, 2010 - Karin EltonMy husband and I are going to try again. We made mashed potatoes recently and when I was finished mixing I asked him “Do we have any wallpaper that needs gluing?” I had made a lot of potatoes, too. They tasted awful, like what I imagine wallpaper paste tastes like. Kindergarteners might have liked it. So for Thanksgiving I was going to go for the box but my husband wants to try again on the real deals. I Googled “Why are my mashed potatoes gluey? and the answer was “Sounds like you used too much liquid. Are you making mashed potatoes with a hand masher or are you using an electric mixer?” So we are going to go easy on the liquid and are going to hand mash them. My sister, Nancy, makes lovely, fluffy mashed potatoes using the mixer, but apparently it’s an art that not everyone can do. But I bet she has to buy store-bought wallpaper paste.
